Anesthesia & Patient Monitoring

Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring

Bringing your cat in for surgery or any procedure that requires anesthesia can be an overwhelming event. Our team is thoroughly trained in the use of anesthesia and sedatives to ensure your cat is comfortable and safe during medical procedures. You can rest assured that our staff is experienced and well versed in the most up-to-date procedures and protocols.

Patient Monitoring

During any procedure that requires your cat to be under sedation or general anesthesia, our experienced and highly trained team are monitoring them constantly to ensure their comfort and safety. We use the most advanced monitoring machines to closely watch your cat’s heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, and blood oxygen levels. In addition, a skilled team member is always right there, using their eyes and ears to catch any issues quickly so they can be addressed immediately. Our goal is to make this experience safe and comfortable knowing they are in good hands.

Bloodwork Requirements

Pre-anesthetic bloodwork provides us with information regarding your cat’s health status than can better guide us in choosing safe and effective anesthetic and sedation protocols. Basic testing is recommended for all of our patients prior to procedures that require anesthesia or sedation, and is required in patients aged seven or older.

Local Anesthesia

The professional staff at Albuquerque Cat Clinic believe your cat’s comfort is very important. In some situations, we may need to use a local anesthetic on your cat. Local Anesthesia helps to block the pain pathways leading to the brain and can make your cat more comfortable during minor procedures or after surgery.
